UPDATE: Word from Weezie is that the heat is back on. Thank goodness, and thanks to my concerned friends -- whoa, people actually read this thing?

The heat in our apt has been off for over 24 hours. We discovered it was off yesterday morning, but that's happened before, and we figured it would come back on soon. However, around 4 pm, the apartment started getting very cold, and we began to worry. I was bitching to Genie about it in the kitchen when the radiator made a hissing sound and clanked back to life -- we thought we were in the clear. Unfortunately, the heat shut off again about an hour later.

As the evening wore on and we bundled ourselves into more and more layers, I began to get loopy. Weezie and I were sitting in the living room when I heard someone on the stairs. I ran out the door and accosted him: "Do you have heat in your apartment?" Of course, the guy was headed up the stairs; he had just gotten home. But I must've looked so crazy in my wool pom-pom hat that he said "Hang on, I'll check with my roommates," and he scurried up the remaining flights to his door. I started pacing the apartment, screaming "I'm CRA-ZEEEE with COLD! I'm SOOOOO COLD!" Weezie and I worked ourselves into hysterics. "We could do Buns of Steel to stay warm! We could start burning the furniture! We could have a dance party!"

I found my digital meat thermometer in the kitchen and set it up in the living room. It read 64 degrees. I then moved it to my bedroom, and it dropped to 53. This morning, it read 50.
