Leave me a note

2002-11-10 - 1:53 a.m.

Tonight I walked by the remains of Haymarket. On the weekends, it's an open-air, all-day market, where one can buy things like fresh fruits and vegetables, cheap. By the end of the day, the produce is marked down, and the area is strewn with empty crates and rotting goods. As the sellers pack up their stalls and disperse, the area remains a wasted commercial landscape, and under cover of darkness, the refuse is cleared away by waste trucks and bulldozers. They pack the wilting carboard and discarded goods into a towering pile and cart them away. Hours later, the place still reeks like the underbelly of a tired supermarket produce bin. Tomorrow, the whole cycle repeats itself.
